![]() Can you even imagine a world where we didn’t get The Melvins or L7?īut it appears the Evil Punks have been making a comeback, courtesy of popular retro brands such as Mad Max, Streets of Rage, Dredd, and this new offering from Swedish outfit Easy Trigger Games. It was probably for the better, to be honest. Then grunge came along – like a lank-haired A-bomb – and killed off the media scaremongering for good, replacing the bondage jackets and Siouxsie Sioux makeup with flannel shirts and massive depression. RE4 is one of the best horror games of all time, so we cannot wait for its release date - March 24th, 2023 when it comes out for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.Remember when Punks were the bad guys in everything? When comics, movies, TV shows, and, in particular, arcade games of the ’80s and early ’90s all considered punks to be the street-walking vilification of society? From Class of 1984, to Final Fight, to Death Wish 3, nothing on Earth was presented more dangerous by middle-class media than a fella with spiked hair, a safety pin through his nose, and cider in his hand. Between the newer first-person games, Resident Evil 7 Biohazard and Resident Evil 8 Village, and the classic third-person Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 3 Remake, Capcom has clearly been reaching for the moon with the RE Engine. Even though Resident Evil 4 Remake's announcement might have been spoiled by leaks, the first trailer got us plenty excited, and seeing uncut gameplay footage of it in action has us extremely excited. Is it noticeably scarier? Will it be darker than the original? Does it still have funny moments? Did they make any changes? Did the chainsaw guy get new abilities? The answer is yes, but there's so much more to talk about. Got it?Īfter playing through the original Resident Evil 4 dozens of times on everything from GameCube to Meta Quest 2 VR, Brian Altano got to go hands-on with the first 45 minutes of Capcom's highly anticipated next-gen remake of this modern classic of survival-horror action. That precedent was set way back in Predator 1, and Naru’s plan echoes what Dutch does in that movie, which is in this movie's future. So just like in other installments of the Predator franchise, the victorious hunter has to figure out how the alien tech works and how to find ways to defeat it. She eventually drives it into the swamp, which slows it down long enough for Naru to set up the killing blow, using the bone helm to redirect the alien’s targeted projectile bolts so they wind up inside his own forehead. She then steals the Predator’s helm, which is different from the helmets we’ve seen Predators wear in the past but it does aid in aiming his ranged projectiles.Īs the alien chases her down (the moon-roof wasn’t enough), Naru attacks from above, further wounding it. This allows Naru to use a special pistol (more on this pistol below) to install a moon-roof in the back of the alien’s head. ![]() Which is exactly what happens.Īfter briefly escaping, Naru preps for the final confrontation, eating a bunch of the flowers while also using a trapper as bait to lure the Predator. Taabe holds his own for a while but you know these Predator fights are all fun and games until somebody gets impaled. The final fight starts as Naru and her brother Taabe (Dakota Beavers) both engage the Predator. She’s also the one who eventually figures out how to beat the Predator, and it involves a breed of orange flower that when consumed can drop a person’s body temperature enough to avoid detection by the Predator’s heat vision. As our hero, she’s the one who starts to figure out that there’s something out there in the forest that could very well be hunting her tribe. Our main character is Naru (played by Amber Midthunder), a Comanche warrior and hunter whose family seems to think she should leave the hunting to the guys. Like we mentioned in our full Prey review, the film takes Predator back to its roots. It’s the year 1719 in the Northern Great Plains, and a Predator is dropped off here on Earth to find and hunt the planet’s apex predator – you know, pretty standard Predator-style stuff.Īnd in fact, the basic story in Prey is also pretty standard Predator-style stuff, in a good way – a fierce human warrior uses their wits and their environment to hunt down and kill a deadly alien warrior whose sole purpose for being there is to hunt and kill.
